McCain "Rape is Inevitable"-sponsored Fundraiser Back On

A story that has been somewhat under the radar but picked up by a few media outlets (as is what typically happens with McCain-related-less-than-positive stories) has flip flopped in honor of John McCain himself.

John McCain had a fundraiser planned in Texas that was cancelled once the media got a hold of the fact that it was being sponsored by Republican Oilman Clayton Williams.

per CNN:

WASHINGTON (AP) — John McCain has called off a fundraiser at the home of a Texas oilman who joked about rape during a 1990 gubernatorial run in the state.

The Texan, Republican Clayton Williams, made the joke during his failed campaign against Democrat Ann Richards. Williams compared rape to the weather, saying, "As long as it's inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it."

He also compared Richards to the cattle on his ranch, saying he would "head her and hoof her and drag her through the dirt."

Williams' comments made national news at the time and remain easy to find on the Internet. Even so, McCain's campaign said it hadn't known about the remarks.

This is not surprising as John McCain doesn't know how to use a computer, and apparently his staff doesn't either, as a quick Google would have vetted the fundraiser properly.

Being the maverick that he is,

The campaign said it would not return money Williams had raised for McCain because the contributions came from other individuals supporting McCain and not from Williams. Williams told his hometown newspaper, the Midland Reporter-Telegram, that he had raised more than $300,000 for McCain.

That talk is so frickin' straight, I can't stand it.

So basically, 'Eff the Oilman, I'll keep his money".

Now it's being reported that Senator Flip Flop has backpeddled and will have the fundraiser after all.. but don't fret!  The mean ol pro-rape man won't be there!!

Per the Washington Post blog:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) has decided to hold a fundraiser initially sponsored by a controversial Texas oilman later in the summer at a different venue, according to an aide who asked not to be identified.

This morning, a McCain aide confirmed in an e-mail that the contributors who had already made a combined donation of at least $300,000 to the event would have another chance to meet McCain.

"The event at Williams' home on Monday has been cancelled and there will be another Midland event for supporters at a public venue later this summer," the staffer wrote.

Those bitter feminists who are for McCain now surely must be proud.
