I Voted Early: A Hoosier Experience

Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 12:33:49 AM PDT

Yesterday, I voted early for Barack Obama at my county courthouse.

I was inspired by mattinjersey to share.... and considering "Indiana is the new Iowa", I think it's somewhat substantial to relay.

I finally was able to vote for someone who I didn't view as the 'lesser of 2 evils'.. Yesterday, I voted for the BEST candidate.

I live in a somewhat rural area of Indiana, and have never voted early before....I figured I'd get my vote in before the big lines accumulate on May 6th, as early voting opened this week.

Despite the fact that I was asked whether I lived in the county when I asked a clerk where in the building do I go to vote (trust me.. people don't just 'hang out' at this courthouse..especially people of color..which made the question amusing to me), it was actually a pretty pleasant experience.

Interestingly enough, the 'poll workers' told me I was only the 3rd person that day to come in to vote. They said they think people haven't made up their minds yet possibly.. I'm more inclined to believe folks are just lazy.

Even though I don't have the best confidence in the voting machines they use, I'm hoping that my vote counted. Perhaps there is less of a chance of  there being an irregularity if there are very few people who voted on that day? **fingers crossed**

Here are some observations I've noticed about Indiana... of course, I can only speak on what I've seen in the areas I frequent.. and that would be NW Central Indiana:

*I see more Obama stickers on cars than any other

*I've seen more Obama signs in yards.. in fact I have yet to see a Hillary sign... the only Hillary advertisement I've seen is a sticker in someONE's cubicle in an office other than my own. I have seen a couple of Ron Paul signs, however.

*Obama is FLOODING our stations. On the way to work and back I hear at least 2-3 Obama Radio ads each time.. and have seen his commercial frequently.

I would like to thank Bill Clinton for coming to Indiana and bringing back the Tuzla situation, reminding everyone of the fact that the Clintons have never seen a lie they didn't like.

...and to think I respected them before this campaign began.

All I really know is that Obama scored my early vote in IN...and I was ecstatic that I had the privilege to do so.
